Valentine's Day

The truth is, Skyler is 100x more romantic than I've ever dreamed of being.  He does sweet things for me every day of the year.  To make matters worse, I've always been kinda' anti-Valentine's Day.  It's fine to love someone. It's fine to want to shout it to the whole world.  I have just never been into the tradition that guys are expected to spend an outrageous amount of money on their significant other, in order to prove his love for her.  It's just a strange tradition.

Skyler & I decided months ago we weren't "doing" Valentine's Day.  Then he bought himself a couple of shirts and we ordered a yoga mat for him; then I ordered swimsuits (on super clearance! Holla!)  When we realized we'd each spent money on ourselves we said, "Thanks, hon." & called it Valentine's Day.

To celebrate, we're making dinner & drinking Sparkling Grape Juice tonight.  We did get cards. Mine is mildly (completely) inappropriate so it pretty much sums up his wife. ;)  Seriously, it's golden. I'll post a picture AFTER Valentine's Day (we're exchanging cards tonight and I don't want him to see it ahead of time!)  I forbid Sky to get me a funny card and said it had to be romantic.  We'll see. :)

In honor of Valentine's Day, here's a list (in no certain order) of some of the many reasons I love Skyler:

1.  He always watches the Bachelor with me, and only pretends to hate it when other people find out he watches it.  He yells at Tierra with me, and laughs when she ugly cries.  We both do a little inner happy dance when she gets sent home.  If you can happy dance over white trash reality TV with someone, it's a sign you are soul mates.

2. He is sexy as heck. Let's be honest, I married a good looking man.  &, while that's not the only reason I was originally attracted to him, it certainly didn't hurt.

3. He puts up with me; some days, that's a dang lot for anyone to handle. He does it well.

4. He made sure our wedding was exactly what I wanted.  (In all honesty, by the time our wedding came around, all I really cared about was walking into the temple with him.)

5. Skyler is really honest. I know what he thinks, all of the time, and I love that. We don't play guessing games.

6. He totally entertains my 'baby Pinteresting' even though we both know it will be a while before I need to worry about any of that.

7. & he's going to be a great daddy, someday.  The little girls in my room at the daycare all LOVE "Sky-urr."  One of the things I was looking for most in a husband was someone who was going to be a great father.

8. He comes from an amazing family. I've heard horror stories about people's in-laws. I am so blessed. His parents raised him to be the man I love, and always support us through everything.

9. He is super competitive.  It's borderline crazy.  Seriously, I've never met someone who cares so much about 'winning' but it's hilarious and makes me giggle every time his inner-crazy-person comes out.

10. Skyler is really good at not judging people.  He doesn't care where people have been, or even where they are right now; he is so good at seeing others' potential, and I love that.

11. He gives really long back rubs, even though I never seem to repay him. ;)

12. He is even sillier than me; he 'gets' my weird, my inappropriate, my too-honest. I think my parents always knew it would take a very special man to love me and understand my personality.  He is definitely one-of-a-kind. :)

13. He teases me every single day.  He'll say things that are completely opposite the truth, just to get a rise out of me, and of course I always feed into it.

14. He is a really good kisser. Just sayin'...

15. He laughs so hard with me.  I don't understand people who don't spend hours every day laughing; with Skyler, I am able to do that.  I've never laughed harder or longer than I have when I'm with him.

16. He's doesn't get super into politics, but he still cares about our country and what is best for it.  He never bad mouths our leaders, because he understands how a democracy works and that "we the people" chose those leaders.  However, he also has his eyes, ears, and mind open for change to occur in the future.

17. His momma raised a gentleman.  He always holds doors for people, guides me with his hand on the small of my back, and lets people who only have a few items go ahead of us in the checkout.  (Because, dang it, if you are one of those people who has enough groceries to last you for six months and the person behind you has a gallon of milk, you need to let them go ahead or your character kinda' sucks. I'm just being honest.)

18. He loves the Gospel just as much as I do.  Plain & simple.

19. He cares about the little things; If he hurts my feelings (no matter how irrational I'm being), he always apologizes.  If I'm having "one of those" days, he'll bring me the heating pad and a blanket so we can curl up on the couch for a snuggle-fest.

20. He works dang hard for us.  He is doing so well in school and working a job on top of that, and never complains that it's too much.

21. He promised me to be my 'forever best friend'.  I treasure that promise more than anything.
